A very honest man

I would like to share with all those who would like to hear the opinions of a very honest man: José Mujica, the president of Uruguay.

What is clear is the strength of his convictions, his humility and the wisdom of his age.

I have tried to embed a video but it does not seem to work (?!).

Please follow this link to view the video: http://aje.me/19GDHUG

The interview is in English with a rather good Spanish translation.

The mystery of an Angel

Gabriel

Gabriel

A couple of days ago I saw this photo of mine on a friend’s wall and it brought me back to the memory of why I took this picture. It was the mystery of the angel’s demeanour : he seemed to be in a different reality, so involved was he in his own ritual.

It was during a yearly festival in La Paz that I chanced upon him with thousands of other dancers.

If you wish to ‘participate’ in the festival of Gran Poder, please view this e-book: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/47368164/granpoder/index.html

Mudejar and Azul tiling

It is an overpowering feeling to see such abundance of patterns,  yet there is order in that apparent caos.

Exentric statue

Musico

I liked this statue for its comical eccentricity, including the dog turd he is steping on

Matador!

When I was very young, my uncle Cesar would take me to the ‘Corrida de Toros’, so I have a rather imaginary vision of the event.

I bought the photo above in Seville, at the door of the Maestranza, the mythical bull ring, where a few years earlier we viewed a ‘corrida’ that left me rather deflated. I did not like or understand the picador’s fierce behaviour, lancing the bull repeatedly.

What I remember of a good corrida is depicted fully in the photograph above: the courage and the elegant pose of the matador, the size and determination of the bull, its head reminiscent of  Picasso’s Tauromaquia.

Notice also the bull’s tail wrapped around the impeccable matador, the hoof and the foot are touching.

Talking about Chris and Christianity: I say the man above, a market seller, in such a pose that it almost mimicked the image of Christ on the cross, but with a benevolent look on him.

La Plaza de España

The wide open squares of Spanish cities, reflecting the heat of the southern territory. Moorish influence everywhere.
